Freddy’s Frozen Custard & Steakburgers to Open Sixth Location in Albuquerque by Mid-June

Freddy's new location

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. — Freddy’s Frozen Custard & Steakburgers, the fast-casual chain known for its signature thinly-sliced steakburgers, freshly churned frozen custard, and crispy cheese curds, is expanding its footprint in New Mexico with a sixth location set to open in Albuquerque this summer.

The new restaurant is currently under construction at 4315 Wyoming Blvd. NE, just north of Montgomery Blvd., and is expected to open its doors to guests by mid-June, according to Freddy’s spokesperson Kim Huynh. The location will bring approximately 50 new jobs to the local community, ranging from part-time crew positions to management roles.

The opening is part of a broader expansion strategy by Freddy’s, which has seen steady growth nationwide. Founded in Wichita, Kansas, in 2002, the franchise now operates over 550 locations across 36 states and has been consistently ranked among the country’s top fast-casual brands.

“The Albuquerque market continues to respond very positively to Freddy’s,” Huynh said in an email to the Journal. “Our commitment to freshly prepared food, friendly service, and clean restaurants has built a loyal customer base here, and we’re excited to bring another convenient location to the northeast part of the city.”

Freddy’s distinguishes itself from other burger chains with its retro-style branding and menu centered around high-quality, cooked-to-order steakburgers made with thin, crispy-edged patties. Other menu staples include Vienna® all-beef hot dogs, crispy shoestring fries, creamy frozen custard treats, and limited-time seasonal offerings. Many locations also feature cheese curds, chili cheese fries, and specialty concretes that rotate throughout the year.

This Wyoming Boulevard location will mark Freddy’s sixth in the Albuquerque area, joining existing restaurants on San Mateo Blvd., Coors Blvd., Paseo del Norte, and other parts of the metro area. The brand’s consistent expansion across New Mexico signals strong regional demand and support from both customers and franchise partners.

Construction crews were seen working on the building earlier this week, and Huynh confirmed that Freddy’s is aiming to meet the mid-June opening target, barring any construction or permitting delays. The store will include Freddy’s traditional red-and-white branding, indoor dining, and drive-thru service, catering to both dine-in guests and those on the go.

As part of its opening plans, the new location is expected to hold a grand opening celebration, with potential promotions and giveaways to welcome new customers. Freddy’s frequently partners with local organizations during store openings, and details of any charitable tie-ins or community partnerships are expected to be announced closer to the opening date.

The continued growth of Freddy’s in Albuquerque mirrors national trends in the fast-casual dining sector, which has rebounded strongly in recent years as consumers seek convenient, high-quality alternatives to traditional fast food. Freddy’s expansion also reflects the company’s focus on franchisee support and operational consistency — pillars that have helped fuel its rise in industry rankings.

Earlier this year, Freddy’s was recognized as #23 on Fast Casual’s Top 100 Movers + Shakers, #67 on Entrepreneur’s Franchise 500, and #36 on Yelp’s 50 Most Loved Brands. The company continues to attract franchise operators and real estate developers seeking to bring the brand to new markets across the country.
